The antivirus, if installed on the C partition, can't access the mbr

It was an antivirus running off a boot CD. All three that I ran specifically reported no MBR virus found.

Then it certainly should have found an MBR virus if the virus definitions were current

Alright well, I think the motherboard is toast. That's all I can come up with. If anyone suspects otherwise, let me know!
